Overview

Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) is a free patch management tool from Microsoft. It can be used to deploy updates to Windows servers, desktops, and laptops in a network. WSUS can be used to automatically download, install, and approve updates for Microsoft products, such as Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office products, and Exchange Server. WSUS can also be used to deploy third-party updates. WSUS can be installed on computers that are running any of the following:

  • Windows Server 2012

  2. In the left pane, click on Tools.
  3. In the Tools menu, select WSUS Reporting.
  4. In the WSUS Reporting window, select the Configure Reporting task.
  5. In the Configure Reporting wizard, click on Next.
  6. In the Connection page, enter the Server name and Database name and click on Next.
  7. In the Credentials page, enter the User name and Password and click on Next.
  8. In the Confirm installation selections page, click on Install.
  9. In the Results page, click on Close.

Viewing WSUS Reports

To view WSUS reports, do the following:

  1. Open the Server Manager console.
  2. In the left pane, click on Tools.
  3. In the Tools menu, select WSUS Reporting.
  4. In the WSUS Reporting window, select the View Reports task.
  5. In the View Reports wizard, click on Next.
  6. In the Select Report page, select the Update Compliance report and click on Next.
  7. In the Specify Report Options page, select the Group by Update Classifications option and click on Finish.

The Update Compliance report will now be generated. You can view the report in the WSUS Reporting window.
