What is the Perspective Filter?

The Perspective Filter is a tool in Affinity Photo that allows you to correct the perspective of an image. It can be used to fix both horizontal and vertical lines that appear to be converging, as well as to correct the perspective of an image that has been taken from an angle.

How to Use the Perspective Filter

To use the Perspective Filter, first select the layer that you want to apply the filter to. Then, go to Filter > Distort > Perspective. This will bring up the Perspective Filter dialog box.

In the Perspective Filter dialog box, there are four control points that you can use to manipulate the perspective of the image. To change the perspective, click and drag one of the control points. You can also use the Scale and Rotate options to further adjust the image.

Once you’re happy with the perspective of the image, click OK to apply the filter.

Tips for Using the Perspective Filter

  • If you’re not happy with the results of the Perspective Filter, you can always undo it by pressing Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (macOS).
  • If you want to keep the original image and create a new one with the corrected perspective, duplicate the layer before applying the Perspective Filter.
  • When using the Perspective Filter, it’s often helpful to zoom in to the image so that you can see the results of your changes more clearly.

How to Use the Perspective Filter in Affinity Photo

1. Choose a filter

Open the Filter menu and choose the Perspective filter. You can also access this filter by going to the Layer menu and choosing New Adjustment Layer > Perspective.

2. Set the options

In the Perspective dialog, set the options as follows:

  • Mode: Choose the mode that best suits your needs. For this example, we’ll use the default mode, Manual.
  • X: Enter the amount of perspective distortion in the horizontal direction. Positive values will make the image appear to be leaning to the right, while negative values will make it appear to be leaning to the left.
  • Y: Enter the amount of perspective distortion in the vertical direction. Positive values will make the image appear to be leaning forward, while negative values will make it appear to be leaning backwards.
  • Z: Enter the amount of perspective distortion in the depth direction. Positive values will make the image appear to be coming towards you, while negative values will make it appear to be going away from you.

3. Adjust the perspective

Click and drag on the image to adjust the perspective. You can also use the X, Y, and Z values to fine-tune the perspective.

4. Apply the filter

Click the Apply button to apply the filter.

5. Adjust the layer

If you’re not happy with the results, you can adjust the layer by going to the Layer menu and choosing Layer Properties. In the Layer Properties dialog, you can adjust the Opacity and Blend Mode of the layer.

6. Save the image

When you’re happy with the results, go to the File menu and choose Save As. In the Save As dialog, choose the file format you want to use and click the Save button.
