How to Use the Migration Assistant to Transfer Data between Macs

Mac OS Mojave introduced a new Migration Assistant utility that makes it easier than ever to transfer data from one Mac to another, whether you’re moving to a new computer or just want to create a duplicate of your current setup. Here’s how to use the Migration Assistant to transfer data between Macs.
1. First, make sure both Macs are running the latest version of macOS Mojave. On your old Mac, open the App Store and click the Updates tab. If any updates are available, install them. On your new Mac, open System Preferences and click Software Update. Install any available updates.
2. On your old Mac, open the Migration Assistant application. You’ll find it in the Utilities folder, which is in the Applications folder.
3. Click the Continue button.
4. On the next screen, select the From a Mac option, then click the Continue button.
5. On the next screen, select the option to transfer information from your old Mac to your new Mac. You can also choose to transfer information from a Time Machine backup or from another disk.
6. Click the Continue button.
7. On the next screen, enter the password for your old Mac. This is the password you use to log in to your old Mac.
8. Click the Continue button.
9. On the next screen, select the applications, settings, and files you want to transfer. You can also choose to transfer everything.
10. Click the Continue button.
11. On the next screen, select the disks you want to transfer. You can also choose to transfer all disks.
12. Click the Continue button.
13. On the next screen, select the option to transfer your information wirelessly. You can also choose to transfer your information using a FireWire or Ethernet cable.
14. Click the Continue button.
15. On the next screen, select the option to transfer your information now. You can also choose to schedule the transfer for later.
16. Click the Continue button.
17. On the next screen, click the Quit button.
18. On your new Mac, open the Migration Assistant application. You’ll find it in the Utilities folder, which is in the Applications folder.
19. Click the Continue button.
20. On the next screen, select the To a Mac option, then click the Continue button.
21. On the next screen, enter the password for your new Mac. This is the password you use to log in to your new Mac.
22. Click the Continue button.
23. On the next screen, select the applications, settings, and files you want to transfer. You can also choose to transfer everything.
24. Click the Continue button.
25. On the next screen, select the disks you want to transfer. You can also choose to transfer all disks.
26. Click the Continue button.
27. On the next screen, select the option to transfer your information wirelessly. You can also choose to transfer your information using a FireWire or Ethernet cable.
28. Click the Continue button.
29. On the next screen, select the option to transfer your information now. You can also choose to schedule the transfer for later.
30. Click the Continue button.
Your information will now begin transferring to your new Mac. When the process is finished, you can begin using your new Mac with all of your old information.
There are a few things to keep in mind when using the Migration Assistant to transfer data between Macs:
1. Make sure both Macs are connected to the same network.
2. Make sure you have an administrator account on both Macs.
3. On the source Mac, open the Migration Assistant application. On the destination Mac, open the Migration Assistant application in the Utilities folder.
4. On the source Mac, select the option to transfer from another Mac. On the destination Mac, select the option to transfer to another Mac.
5. On the source Mac, enter the IP address or hostname of the destination Mac. On the destination Mac, enter the IP address or hostname of the source Mac.
6. On the source Mac, select the option to transfer all users or only selected users. On the destination Mac, select the option to transfer all users or only selected users.
7. On the source Mac, select the option to transfer files, applications, settings, and user accounts. On the destination Mac, select the option to transfer files, applications, settings, and user accounts.
8. On the source Mac, click the Continue button. On the destination Mac, click the Continue button.
