Enabling AirDrop

Before you can start using AirDrop to share files with other Apple devices, you need to make sure it is turned on. You can do this by opening the Control Center and tapping the AirDrop icon. If the icon is white, then AirDrop is turned off and you will need to tap the icon to turn it on. If the icon is blue, then AirDrop is turned on.

Sharing Files with AirDrop

Once AirDrop is turned on, you can start sharing files with other Apple devices. To share a file with AirDrop, simply tap and hold on the file, then tap the Share button. From the Share menu, tap the AirDrop icon. You will see a list of nearby devices that you can share the file with. Tap the device you want to share the file with and the file will be sent wirelessly.

Receiving Files with AirDrop

If someone tries to share a file with you using AirDrop, you will see a notification appear on your screen. Tap the Accept button to receive the file, or tap the Decline button to decline it. The file will be saved in the Downloads folder on your device.

Assuming you have both devices powered on and near each other:

On your iPhone 14, open the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen.

Tap and hold the network settings card in the top-left corner of the Control Center.

Tap the “Airdrop” button.

Tap the “Contacts Only” or “Everyone” button to determine who can see your device when they attempt to Airdrop to it.

On the other Apple device, open the Control Center and tap the “Airdrop” button.

Tap the name of the device you want to Airdrop to from the list of devices that appears.

If you’re Airdropping to an iOS device and you have “Use Cellular Data” turned on in Settings -> General -> Airdrop, you’ll be able to Airdrop over a cellular connection.

Airdrop only works with certain types of content. For example, you can Airdrop photos, videos, contacts, Passbook passes, Notes, Voice Memos, Map locations, websites, and more.

If you’re trying to Airdrop from one iOS device to another and the devices are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID, you’ll see the option to “Airdrop using iCloud.” This option will use your iCloud storage to Airdrop the files, so you don’t have to be near each other to transfer the files.

Assuming you have both AirDrop and WiFi turned on and your devices are discoverable, you can start sharing files with other Apple devices. Here’s how:

Open the app with the content you want to share.

Tap the Share icon.

Tap the AirDrop user you want to share with.

If you don’t see the person you want to share with, make sure both devices are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.

When the share sheet appears, tap the content you want to share, then tap Share.

For example, let’s say you want to share a photo from the Photos app.Open the Photos app and find the photo you want to share. Tap the Share icon, then tap the AirDrop user you want to share with. The share sheet appears with the photo selected by default. Tap Share.

If you’re sharing with someone who’s using an iOS device, they’ll get a notification that you want to share content with them. They can choose to Accept or Decline your content. If they choose Accept, the content will be downloaded to their device.

If you’re sharing with someone who’s using a Mac, they’ll get a notification that you want to share content with them. They can choose to Accept or Decline your content. If they choose Accept, the content will be downloaded to their Downloads folder.

If you’re sharing with someone who’s using an iOS device and they have AirDrop set to receive content from Contacts Only, they won’t get a notification. Instead, the content will be automatically downloaded to their device.

If you’re sharing with someone who’s using a Mac and they have AirDrop set to receive content from Contacts Only, they won’t get a notification. Instead, the content will be automatically downloaded to their Downloads folder.

You can also share content with more than one person at a time by tapping Share With Multiple People. Just tap the AirDrop user you want to share with, then tap Share. The content will be downloaded to their device.

You can share any type of content using AirDrop, including photos, videos, documents, website links, and more.

Then, click the share button at the top of the window, and select AirDrop from the share menu. You’ll see a list of nearby iPhones that you can share the file with. Select the name of the person you want to share the file with, and they’ll receive a notification that you’re trying to share a file with them.
