What is AirDrop?

AirDrop is an ad-hoc service in Apple Inc.’s macOS and iOS operating systems, introduced in Mac OS X Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) and iOS 7, which enables the transfer of files among supported Macintosh computers and iOS devices without using email or a mass storage device.

How to Use AirDrop

Using AirDrop is easy and it only takes a few steps to get started. Here’s how:

1. Open the AirDrop window

To open the AirDrop window, click the AirDrop icon in the sidebar of a Finder window. If you don’t see the AirDrop icon, click the Finder icon in the Dock, then click AirDrop in the sidebar.

2. Wait for your device to be found

Your device appears in the AirDrop window after it’s been found by another device. If you don’t see your device, make sure that AirDrop is turned on in Control Center.

3. Select the device you want to share with

To share files with another device using AirDrop, drag one or more items to the device’s name in the AirDrop window.

4. Accept or decline the transfer

The other device receives an alert with a preview of the items you want to share. To accept the transfer, click Accept. To decline the transfer, click Decline.

You can also use AirDrop to share content with Apple TV, HomePod, or another Mac. Just drag items to the AirPlay icon in the sidebar of a Finder window.

Before you can use AirDrop, you need to have it turned on. On your Mac, open the AirDrop window from the Finder. Then, do one of the following:

To turn on AirDrop for just your Mac, select ”Allow me to be discovered by:” > ”Contacts Only” or ”Everyone.”

To turn on AirDrop for all your devices, select ”Allow me to be discovered by:” > ”Contacts Only” or ”Everyone,” then turn on ”Allow me to be discovered by:” > ”Everyone” on your other devices.

If you want to share files with a specific person, you need to be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and have AirDrop turned on.

Drag one or more files or folders to the person or ”Everyone,” then click Send.

If you don’t see the person you want to share with, make sure that both devices are using AirDrop and that they’re within 30 feet (9 meters) of each other. If you still can’t see the person, ask them to turn AirDrop off and on again.

How to receive files using AirDrop

When someone shares files with you using AirDrop, you see an alert with a preview of the files. To see the files, do one of the following:

Click ”Accept” to save the files in the Downloads folder.

Click ”Save” to choose where to save the files, then click ”Save.”

Click ”Decline” to delete the files without saving them.

To see where the files are saved, click the alert, then click ”Show in Finder.”

If you don’t see an alert when someone shares files with you, make sure that you turned on ”Allow me to be discovered by:” > ”Contacts Only” or ”Everyone” from the AirDrop window.

If you turned on ”Allow me to be discovered by:” > ”Contacts Only,” make sure that the person who’s sharing the files with you is in your Contacts app. If they’re not, you won’t see their device in the AirDrop window.

You can share files using AirDrop with any Mac that uses macOS Mojave or later, or with any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that uses iOS 7 or later.

If you want to share files with a Windows PC, you can use iCloud Drive.

The AirDrop feature on MacOS Mojave is a quick and easy way to share files with other Apple devices. Here’s how to use it:

To share a file using AirDrop, simply open the Finder and locate the file you want to share. Then, drag and drop the file onto the AirDrop icon in the sidebar.

You’ll see a list of nearby devices that you can share the file with. Simply select the device you want to share with and the file will be sent over.

If the recipient accepts the file, it will be downloaded to their device. If they decline, the file will be deleted.

AirDrop is a great way to quickly share files between Apple devices. It’s easy to use and doesn’t require any setup.

If you have a Mac running Mojave and a newer iPhone or iPad, you can use AirDrop to wirelessly send files between the two devices. Here’s how:

1. On your Mac, open Finder and click on AirDrop in the sidebar.

2. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Files app.

3. Tap the Share button in the app.

4. Select the file you want to share.

5. Tap AirDrop and choose your Mac from the list of devices.

The file will be sent to your Mac.

Assuming you have both AirDrop and Bluetooth turned on for your Mac and iPhone, you should see your Mac appear in the AirDrop window on your iPhone. Tap it to initiate the transfer.

If you don’t see your Mac appear, make sure that AirDrop is turned on in the Finder on your Mac. You can do this by opening a new Finder window and selecting AirDrop from the sidebar. If AirDrop is turned off, you’ll see a button to turn it on.

Once you’ve initiated the transfer, you’ll see a progress bar on your iPhone showing you the status of the transfer. When it’s complete, you can find the file in the same location on your iPhone as it was on your Mac.
