How to Set Up TP-Link Smart Lighting for Voice Control

If you’re looking to get started with smart lighting but don’t want to spend a lot of money, TP-Link’s Kasa line of smart bulbs is a great option. You can get started with a single bulb for as little as $10, and they work with all the major smart home assistants. In this article, we’ll show you how to set up your TP-Link smart lighting so you can control it with your voice.

Before you begin, you’ll need to make sure you have the following:

A TP-Link account

The Kasa app for Android or iOS

A compatible TP-Link smart bulb

A compatible smart home assistant (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple Siri)

Setting up your TP-Link smart lighting

The first thing you’ll need to do is create a TP-Link account and download the Kasa app. Once you’ve done that, open the app and tap the “+” icon in the top-right corner.

On the next screen, select “Lighting” and then “Smart Bulb.”

Now, screw in your TP-Link smart bulb and turn it on. The app will search for compatible devices and then ask you to select the one you want to set up.

Once the bulb is connected, you’ll be asked to name it and choose a location for it. You can also tap the “Advanced Settings” button to set a custom schedule or change the color temperature.

When you’re finished, tap the “Done” button.

Now that your TP-Link smart bulb is set up, it’s time to connect it to your smart home assistant.

Connecting to Amazon Alexa

If you’re using Amazon Alexa, open the Alexa app and tap the menu button in the top-left corner.

From the menu, select “Skills & Games.”

On the next screen, search for “Kasa” and then select the “Kasa Smart Home” skill.

Tap the “Enable” button.

You’ll be taken to a login screen. Enter your TP-Link account credentials and tap the “Log In” button.

Once you’re logged in, tap the “Allow” button to give Alexa access to your Kasa account.

Now, go back to the Alexa app and tap the menu button again. This time, select “Devices.”

On the next screen, tap the “+” button in the top-right corner and then select “Add Device.”

Choose the “Light” option and then select the “Kasa Smart” light you want to add.

Tap the “Enable” button and then the “Done” button.

Your TP-Link smart bulb is now connected to Alexa and you can control it with your voice. Try saying something like “Alexa, turn on the light.”

Connecting to Google Assistant

If you’re using Google Assistant, open the Google Home app and tap the menu button in the top-left corner.

From the menu, select “Home Control.”

On the next screen, tap the “+” button in the bottom-right corner and then select “Set up device.”

Under the “Works with Google” heading, select “Have something already set up?”

On the next screen, search for “Kasa” and then select the “Kasa Smart Home” option.

You’ll be taken to a login screen. Enter your TP-Link account credentials and tap the “Log In” button.

Once you’re logged in, tap the “Allow” button to give Google access to your Kasa account.

You’ll now see a list of all the Kasa devices that are connected to your account. Select the one you want to add and then tap the “Done” button.

Your TP-Link smart bulb is now connected to Google Assistant and you can control it with your voice. Try saying something like “Ok Google, turn on the light.”

Connecting to Apple Siri

If you’re using Apple Siri, open the Home app and tap the “+” button in the top-right corner.

On the next screen, select “Add Accessory.”

You’ll now see a list of all the compatible accessories in your area. Find the Kasa light you want to add and tap it.

On the next screen, tap the “Done” button in the top-right corner.

You’ll now see a screen with a QR code and a code. The code is the eight-digit HomeKit code for your Kasa light.

Open the Kasa app and tap the menu button in the top-left corner. From the menu, select “HomeKit.”

On the next screen, enter the eight-digit code and then tap the “Add” button.

Your TP-Link smart bulb is now connected to Siri and you can control it with your voice. Try saying something like “Hey Siri, turn on the light.”

If you want to have more fine-grained control over your lighting, you can create Scenes in the Kasa app. A Scene lets you control multiple lights at once, and you can schedule them to turn on and off at specific times. To create a Scene:

1. Open the Kasa app and tap the Devices tab.
2. Tap the + button in the top-right corner and select Create Scene.
3. Give your Scene a name and tap Next.
4. Select the lights you want to include in the Scene and tap Next.
5. Adjust the brightness and color temperature of each light as desired.
6. Tap the switch in the top-right corner to turn the Scene on or off.
7. Tap Done.

You can edit or delete a Scene at any time by tapping the pencil icon next to it in the Kasa app.

To set up your TP-Link Smart Lighting for voice control, you’ll need to connect it to your home’s Wi-Fi network and then download the Kasa app. Once the app is installed, open it and create an account. Then, tap the “Add Device” button and select “Smart Lighting” from the list of options. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish connecting your TP-Link lights to the app.

Now that your TP-Link Smart Lighting is set up, you can start controlling it with your voice. To do this, you’ll need to download the Kasa skill for Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant. Once the skill is installed, open the Kasa app and tap the “Voice Control” button. Then, follow the on-screen instructions to link your Kasa account to the skill.

Once your TP-Link Smart Lighting is linked to the Kasa skill, you can start controlling it with your voice. To turn on a light, say “Alexa, turn on the light.” To dim a light, say “Alexa, dim the light.” To change the color of a light, say “Alexa, set the light to red.” You can also control multiple lights at once by grouping them together in the Kasa app. To do this, tap the “Grouping” button and then tap the “Create Group” button. Give your group a name and then add the lights you want to include in the group.

With TP-Link Smart Lighting, you can easily add voice control to your home lighting. Just connect the lights to your home’s Wi-Fi network and then download the Kasa app. Once the app is installed, open it and create an account. Then, tap the “Add Device” button and select “Smart Lighting” from the list of options. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish connecting your TP-Link lights to the app.
