How to Set Up Hive Smart Cameras for Indoor Monitoring
Posted on 15th June 2023
Hive smart cameras are a great way to keep an eye on your home or office when you’re not there. They offer live streaming, two-way audio, and motion detection, so you can stay connected to what’s going on even when you’re not there. Here’s how to set up your Hive smart camera for indoor monitoring.
1. Choose the Right Location
The first step is to choose the right location for your Hive smart camera. You’ll want to place it in a spot where it has a clear view of the area you want to monitor. If you’re using it for security purposes, you’ll also want to make sure it’s not too easy for someone to tamper with or disable. Once you’ve found the perfect spot, use the included mounting hardware to secure the camera in place.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi
Next, you’ll need to connect your Hive smart camera to your home or office Wi-Fi network. The camera will come with instructions on how to do this. Once it’s connected, you’ll be able to access the live streaming feed from anywhere in the world.
3. Configure Motion Detection
One of the most useful features of the Hive smart camera is motion detection. You can configure the camera to send you alerts whenever it detects movement in the monitored area. To do this, open the Hive app and go to the settings for your camera. Then, enable the motion detection feature and specify the sensitivity. You can also specify which days and times you want the motion detection to be active.
4. Set Up Two-Way Audio
Another great feature of the Hive smart camera is two-way audio. This allows you to communicate with people in the monitored area through the camera. To set this up, open the Hive app and go to the settings for your camera. Then, enable the two-way audio feature and specify the microphone and speaker volume levels. You can also specify which days and times you want the two-way audio to be active.
5. Enjoy Live Streaming
Once you’ve set up your Hive smart camera, you can start enjoying live streaming from anywhere in the world. Open the Hive app and go to the live streaming page. Then, select your camera from the list and start watching. You can also use the Hive app to review recorded footage, set up alerts, and manage other settings for your camera.
3. Configuring the Hive Camera Settings
Now that the hardware is all set up, it’s time to configure the camera settings. The Hive app will walk you through this process.
First, open the app and tap on the “Cameras” tab. Then, tap on the “Add Camera” button in the top right corner.
On the next screen, select your camera from the list of available devices. If you’re not sure which one is yours, you can always check the serial number on the back of the camera.
Once your camera is selected, you’ll be prompted to give it a name. This can be anything you want.
After that, you’ll be asked to choose a location for your camera. This is important for two reasons: first, it helps the app know which rules to apply to your camera (more on that later); and second, it helps you keep track of multiple cameras if you have more than one.
Once you’ve chosen a location, you’ll be able to choose which room your camera is in. This is purely for organizational purposes, so you can choose whatever you want here.
Finally, you’ll be asked to choose a sharing option for your camera. By default, your camera will only be accessible to you. However, you can choose to share it with other people in your Hive account.
Once you’ve gone through all of these steps, your camera will be successfully set up and ready to use!
4. Using Your Hive Camera
Now that your camera is all set up, it’s time to start using it.
The first thing you’ll want to do is head to the “Cameras” tab in the Hive app and tap on your camera. This will bring up a live view of what your camera is seeing.
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a few different options. The first is “Record”. This will start recording a video of what your camera is seeing. You can stop the recording at any time by tapping on the “Stop” button.
Next to “Record” is the “Snapshot” button. This will take a still photo of what your camera is seeing.
Finally, there’s the “Settings” button. Tapping on this will bring up a menu where you can change things like the camera’s name, location, and sharing options.
5. Creating rules for your camera
One of the most useful features of the Hive app is the ability to create rules for your camera.
Rules are basically if-this-then-that statements that tell your camera what to do in certain situations. For example, you could create a rule that says “if the camera detects motion, then send me a notification.”
To create a rule, head to the “Cameras” tab in the app and tap on your camera. Then, tap on the “Rules” button in the top right corner.
On the next screen, you’ll be able to choose from a variety of different rule templates. Or, if you want, you can create a custom rule by tapping on the “Create custom rule” button.
Once you’ve chosen a rule template or created a custom rule, you’ll be able to specify the details of that rule. For example, if you’re using the “Motion detection” rule template, you’ll be able to choose which days of the week and what time of day the rule should be active.
Once you’re happy with your rule, tap on the “Save” button and it will be automatically added to your camera.
6. Viewing your camera’s footage
The final step is to actually view the footage that your camera has recorded.
To do this, head to the “Cameras” tab in the app and tap on your camera. Then, tap on the “Footage” button in the top right corner.
On the next screen, you’ll see a list of all the footage that your camera has recorded. You can watch any footage by tapping on it.
You can also delete any footage by tapping on the “Delete” button in the top right corner.
And that’s it! You now know how to set up and use your Hive smart camera for indoor monitoring.
