How to Enable and Use iCloud Drive on the iPhone 14

What is iCloud Drive?

iCloud Drive is a cloud storage solution from Apple that lets you store your files in the cloud and access them from any of your devices. With iCloud Drive, you can access your files from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Windows PC. You can also use iCloud Drive to share files with others.

Enabling iCloud Drive

To enable iCloud Drive, open the Settings app and tap on your Apple ID banner at the top. Tap iCloud and then iCloud Drive. Toggle the switch next to iCloud Drive to the green ON position.

Accessing iCloud Drive

There are two ways to access your iCloud Drive files:

  • In the Files app:
    • Open the Files app.
    • Tap Browse at the bottom.
    • Under Locations, tap iCloud Drive. If you don’t see it, tap More and then toggle the switch next to iCloud Drive to the green ON position.
  • In the Finder:
    • Open a new Finder window.
    • Click the iCloud Drive icon in the sidebar.

Creating New Folders in iCloud Drive

To create a new folder in iCloud Drive, follow these steps:

  • Open the Files app.
  • Tap Browse at the bottom.
  • Under Locations, tap iCloud Drive.
  • Tap the New Folder button at the top (it looks like a folder with a plus sign).
  • Type a name for the new folder and tap Done.

Moving Files into iCloud Drive

If you have files stored on your iPhone that you want to move into iCloud Drive, you can do so by following these steps:

  • Open the Files app.
  • Tap Browse at the bottom.
  • Tap On My iPhone under Locations.
  • Tap Select at the top.
  • Tap on the files you want to move to iCloud Drive.
  • Tap the Move button at the bottom.
  • Tap iCloud Drive under Destinations.
  • Tap Move in the upper right corner.

Deleting Files from iCloud Drive

If you want to delete a file from iCloud Drive, you can do so by following these steps:

  • Open the Files app.
  • Tap Browse at the bottom.
  • Under Locations, tap iCloud Drive.
  • Tap Select at the top.
  • Tap on the file you want to delete.
  • Tap the trash can icon at the bottom.
  • Tap Delete.

iCloud Drive Settings

There are a few settings you can adjust for iCloud Drive. To access them, open the Settings app and tap on your Apple ID banner at the top. Tap iCloud and then iCloud Drive. Under iCloud Drive, you can toggle the following switches:

  • Optimize Storage: This will automatically upload full-resolution photos and videos to iCloud only when your iPhone is connected to power and Wi-Fi.
  • Show on Home Screen: This will add an iCloud Drive icon to your home screen.
  • Desktop and Documents Folders: This will sync your Desktop and Documents folders to iCloud Drive.
