How to Customize the Dock in Mac OS Mojave

The Dock in MacOS Mojave is a great way to quickly access your most frequently used apps and files. You can also customize the Dock to better suit your needs. In this article, we’ll show you how to customize the Dock in MacOS Mojave.
To begin, open System Preferences and click on the Dock preference pane. Here, you can adjust the size of the icons in the Dock, as well as the position of the Dock on the screen. If you want to have the Dock automatically hide when you’re not using it, you can enable the “Automatically hide and show the Dock” option.
Next, you can add shortcuts to your favorite apps and files in the Dock. To do this, simply drag and drop the app or file icon from the Finder window into the Dock. You can also add shortcuts to websites and folders in the Dock. To do this, drag the website or folder icon from the Finder window into the Dock, and then hold down the Command key and click on the shortcut.
Finally, you can customize the look of the Dock by changing the dock skin. To do this, click on the “Dock” preference pane, and then click on the “Dock Appearance” button. From here, you can choose from a variety of different dock skins, as well as change the color of the dock.

When you want to make changes to the way your Mac’s Dock looks, you have two different options: System Preferences and the Dock’s own preferences.
System Preferences is the more comprehensive option, offering a wider range of options for customizing the Dock. To access System Preferences, click on the Apple menu at the top left of your screen and select “System Preferences.”
In System Preferences, click on the “Dock” icon. This will bring up the Dock preferences pane, which looks like this:
From here, you can change a number of different options related to the Dock.
Size: This slider allows you to change the size of the Dock icons. If you want the icons to be larger or smaller, you can use this slider to make the change.
Magnification: This checkbox allows you to turn on or off the Dock’s magnification feature. When this feature is turned on, the icons in the Dock will get larger when you move your mouse over them.
Position on screen: This drop-down menu allows you to choose where on the screen the Dock will appear. You can choose to have the Dock appear on the left, right, or bottom of the screen.
Minimize windows using: This drop-down menu allows you to choose the animation that is used when you minimize a window to the Dock. You can choose from Genie effect, Scale effect, or Suck effect.
Animate opening applications: This checkbox allows you to turn on or off the animations that are used when you open an application from the Dock.
Automatically hide and show the Dock: This checkbox allows you to turn on or off the Dock’s auto-hide feature. When this feature is turned on, the Dock will automatically hide itself when you’re not using it.
Show indicators for open applications: This checkbox allows you to turn on or off the dot indicators that appear beneath open application icons in the Dock.
Show recent applications in Dock: This checkbox allows you to turn on or off the recent applications stack in the Dock. This stack shows the applications that you’ve recently used.
Dock Preferences
In addition to the options available in System Preferences, the Dock also has its own preferences that you can access by right-clicking on the Dock and selecting “Dock Preferences.”
These preferences are less comprehensive than the ones in System Preferences, but they do allow you to change a few additional options related to the Dock.
Size: This slider allows you to change the size of the Dock icons. If you want the icons to be larger or smaller, you can use this slider to make the change.

As you can see, there are a number of different options that you can use to customize the Dock on your Mac. Whether you want to make a few small changes or completely change the way the Dock looks, you have the tools to do it.
In the “Dock & Menu Bar” section of System Preferences, you can turn on magnification, which will make icons in the Dock appear larger when your mouse pointer is over them. You can also choose to have the Dock automatically hide itself when you’re not using it, which can be useful if you find the Dock takes up too much screen space.
If you want to further customize the look of the Dock, you can do so by right-clicking on the Dock and choosing “Dock Preferences.” From here, you can change the size of the icons, as well as the position of the Dock on the screen.
You can also add or remove items from the Dock by simply dragging and dropping them onto the Dock or off of it. And, if you want to completely remove an item from the Dock, you can right-click on it and choose “Remove from Dock.”
