How to Use the Refine Selection Tools in Affinity Photo

The Refine Selection Tools are located in the “Select” drop-down menu in the top toolbar of Affinity Photo. They are used to make precise selections of areas in an image, and can be used to select an object, a person, or a background.

Making a Selection with the Refine Selection Tools

To make a selection with the Refine Selection Tools, first select the “Select” tool from the top toolbar. Then, click and drag your cursor over the area you want to select. The area will be highlighted in blue.

Once you have made your selection, click on the “Refine Selection” button in the “Select” drop-down menu.

There are three Refine Selection Tools: the Refine Edge Tool, the Refine Mask Tool, and the Refine Selection Brush Tool.

The Refine Edge Tool

The Refine Selection Brush Tool

The Refine Selection Brush Tool is used to select an object by painting over it. To use the Refine Selection Brush Tool, first select the object you want to select. Then, click on the “Refine Selection Brush” button in the “Select” drop-down menu.

The Refine Selection Brush Tool will appear in the top toolbar. Use the Refine Selection Brush Tool to select the object by painting over it.

Making a Precise Selection with the Refine Selection Tools

To make a precise selection with the Refine Selection Tools, select the “Select” tool from the top toolbar. Then, click and drag your cursor over the area you want to select. The area will be highlighted in blue.

Once you have made your selection, click on the “Refine Selection” button in the “Select” drop-down menu.

The Refine Selection Tools will appear in the top toolbar. Use the Refine Selection Tools to reduce the selection by removing from the existing selection.
