Tips for Better Sports Photography on Google Pixel 7a
Posted on 17th June 2023
1. Use the Burst Mode
The Google Pixel 7a has a great camera, but one of its best features is the burst mode. When you’re taking pictures of fast-moving objects, like a basketball player going for a layup, burst mode allows you to take a rapid succession of photos, giving you a better chance of getting a great shot. To use burst mode, just hold down the shutter button while you’re taking the photo. The camera will take a series of photos, and you can choose the best one later.
2. Use Panning to Capture Action Shots
Another great way to get great action shots is to use panning. This is where you follow the action with your camera, while keeping the shutter button pressed down. This will result in a photo with the background blurred, and the subject in sharp focus. This is a great technique to use if you’re trying to capture a sense of motion in your photos.
3. Use the Timer Function
If you’re trying to get a photo of a group of people, or you want to be in the photo yourself, the timer function can be a great help. Just set the timer for two seconds or ten seconds, and then press the shutter button. The camera will take the photo a few seconds after you press the button, giving you time to get into position. Just be sure that you’re in the frame before the photo is taken!
4. Use the Rule of Thirds
One of the best ways to compose a great photo is to use the rule of thirds. This is where you imagine your photo being divided into thirds, both horizontally and vertically. Then, you position your subject along one of those lines, or at one of the intersections. This will help you create a more balanced and visually appealing photo.
5. Get Close to the Action
One of the best ways to get great photos is to get close to the action. This way, you can fill the frame with your subject, and you won’t have to worry about getting the background in the photo. If you’re taking pictures of a game, for example, try to get as close to the action as you can. You’ll get better photos, and you’ll be able to capture more of the emotion of the moment.
6. Use a High ISO
If you’re taking pictures in low light, or you’re trying to capture a fast-moving subject, you’ll need to use a high ISO. This will make your photos more grainy, but it will also allow you to take photos in low light without using a flash. Just be sure to use a high ISO only when you absolutely need to, as it can make your photos look less than ideal.
7. Use a Fast Shutter Speed
If you’re trying to capture a fast-moving subject, you’ll need to use a fast shutter speed. This means that your camera’s shutter will be open for a very short amount of time, allowing you to freeze the action. Just be sure that you don’t use a shutter speed that’s too fast, as this can result in blurry photos.
8. Use a tripod
If you’re taking pictures in low light, or you want to make sure that your photos are perfectly sharp, you’ll need to use a tripod. This will help you keep your camera perfectly still, allowing you to take great photos. Just be sure that you don’t use a tripod that’s too heavy, as this can make it difficult to move your camera around.
9. Shoot in RAW
If you want to have the most control over your photos, you should shoot in RAW. This will give you a digital negative of your photo, which you can then edit on your computer. Just be sure that you have a program that can open RAW files, such as Adobe Photoshop.
10. Edit Your Photos
Once you’ve taken your photos, you’ll need to edit them to make them look their best. There are a number of great photo editing programs out there, such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Just be sure to experiment with different programs to find the one that works best for you.
Pixel phones are great for sports photography, but there are a few things you can do to take even better photos. Here are some tips:
1. Use a tripod
If you can, use a tripod to keep your camera steady. This will help you avoid blurry photos.
2. Use burst mode
In burst mode, your camera will take a series of photos in quick succession. This is great for action shots, as you’re likely to get at least one clear photo.
3. Use the Panning mode
The Panning mode is a great way to capture moving subjects, like athletes or cars. In this mode, your camera will tracking the subject and blur the background to give the photo a sense of motion.
4. Use the Sports mode
The Sports mode is designed specifically for action shots. In this mode, your camera will use a faster shutter speed to freeze the action.
5. Use the HDR+ mode
HDR+ stands for High Dynamic Range. This mode is great for photos with a lot of contrast, like sunsets or photos with both dark and light areas. HDR+ will help to even out the exposure and add more detail to both the dark and light areas.
6. Use filters
There are a number of filters you can use to enhance your sports photos. For example, the “action” filter will increase the shutter speed and the “portrait” filter will smooth out skin tones.
7. Use editing apps
There are a number of editing apps available that can help you improve your photos. Some of our favourites include Snapseed, Lightroom, and VSCO.
8. Shoot in RAW
RAW files are larger than JPEG files, but they contain more information. This means that you have more editing options when you shoot in RAW.
9. Use manual mode
In manual mode, you have complete control over the settings of your camera. This includes the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture. If you’re comfortable using manual mode, it’s a great way to get the most out of your camera.
10. Have fun!
Sports photography can be challenging, but it’s also a lot of fun. So, don’t forget to enjoy yourself and experiment with different techniques.
